| Responsibilities | Job Description/Summary: The Managing Chef is responsible for ensuring that the standard and quality of the food production and the hygiene within the department is always maintained at the highest level. This role is very much hands-on, requiring attention to detail and a positive work attitude. This critical role is primarily responsible for overseeing the operation of culinary needs specific to community kitchens and urban outreach events. The experienced, forward-thinking chef is passionate about the role and will provide additional insight and support to the overall mission and vision of the organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
COMMUNICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage key relationships with vendors, distributors, drivers and resolve issues promptly with the guidance from Supervisor.
• Manage all aspects of the community kitchen and urban outreach events specific to menu planning, food procurement and meal preparation.
• Complete all reports to MC Corporate – event request forms, after action reports etc.
• Be available for events as they arise to ensure that the food is prepared and served as required.
OVERSEE AND SUPERVISE ALL KITCHEN HELP
• Ensure all volunteers are aware of their duties and what is expected of them.
• Teach new volunteers the skills they require to perform their roles to the required standard.
• Delegate duties to volunteer kitchen staff as per the menu requirements.
• Oversee and monitor the work of volunteer kitchen staff to ensure all tasks are completed to Mercy Chefs standards.
• Communicate any volunteer staffing issues to your direct supervisor.
DEPLOYMENTS
• Utilize the ‘Load List’ and ‘Deployment Order List’ on site to include all meal planning, equipment, and special orders to ensure a smooth deployment.
• Support the team throughout deployments by setting up deployment sites, load, and unload kitchen trailers, set up tables, tents and prep areas, etc.
• Work with the volunteers to help prep food, prep, and cook during deployments, events and ensure the health and safety policies are complied with in the kitchen and on-site.
• Complete additional requests and special projects as needed.
ADMINISTRATIVE
• Respond to email, text or phone call communications daily.
• Communicate key details daily.
• Participate in the weekly Pursuit call for mission updates.
ADDITONAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES
Any other duties assigned by the VP of Community Kitchens and Chief Culinary Officer.

| Responsibilities | Job Description/Summary: The Culinary Assistant is responsible for food preparation and
general kitchen sanitation. Must have basic knowledge of kitchen equipment including knife
handling. Responsible for maintaining a clean cooking and working area. Accountable for the
transportation and food safety standards of Mercy Chefs meal deliveries and meal service.
Must maintain a neat a professional appearance and manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Responsible for prep work of the Community Kitchen to include special functions,
deliveries, and possible work in disasters on one of our mobile kitchens or site kitchens
• Makes adjustments to food items to accommodate guests with allergies or specific dietary
restrictions.
• Responsible for properly packing food for transport and service.
• Helps manage Mercy Chefs volunteers in the kitchen and throughout service.
• Ensures proper food service temperature - throughout cooking and serving
• Operates various kitchen appliances such as a blender, oven, grill, stand mixer or tilt
skillet.
• Estimates expected food consumption and organized preparation.
• Expected to drive Mercy Chefs vehicles to designated locations, demos, special events,
deliveries etc. while maintaining the rules of the DMV – Report any issues or problems
while driving Mercy Chefs vehicles.
• Responsible for cleanliness of work area, Community Kitchen and teaching lab
• Must monitor inventory at all times and report items that need to be reordered
• Responsible for receiving incoming food orders and rotating stock
• Communicates with students and teachers to ensure a great meal experience
• Responsible for maintaining a clean uniform
• Communicate with the team (Managing Chef & Community Engagement Liaison) about
how to improve meals and/or service.
DEVELOPMENT
• Maintain kitchen certifications instructed by the Managing Chef – Health Department
DEPLOYMENTS
• Be available for critical needs and any other duties assigned during deployment season

• Any other duties assigned by the VP of Community Kitchens and Chief Culinary officer.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• High School Diploma required; Culinary Degree preferred
• Proficiency in basic computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and
Excel. Database experience preferred
• Must be able to learn quickly and able to supplement knowledge gaps with self-guided
research and online training
• Punctual, efficient in task management, excellent attention to detail
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Knowledge of kitchen sanitation
• Basic knife handling skills
• Basic reading and math skills
• Ability to lift over 50 pounds on a regular basis
• Ability to measure ingredients accurately
• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment
